    Tow Points for Racing

With Temora creeping up what's everyone's solutions for tow points.

This is my first thought for a front one. Does any one foresee any issues passing scruiteneering with the front one here

Rear one is easy for guys with tow bars.

    Macca...

The first one could be an issue....

If you bury the car badly you could find that all it will do is rip out the bolt and that would be very unpleasent.

My thinking would be to use the lowest accesible tow point as possible. Possibly the factory tie-down point for shipping.

I am having the same issues though as the brackets that are used for standard vehicles are removed from HSV's as they interfere with the bumpers.

Tow points must be visible though Shane. The factory tow point wont satisfy this I don't believe. On all race cars I can think of the strap protrudes from the front of the car. The reg does just say forward of the front axels so not to sure

That first point is attached to the radiator support panel, if it does get buried and it needs a touch yank to get the car moving it may cause it to buckle and twist. Very expensive repair to replace the support panel.

Yeah that's my only concern. I think I'll take the bar off and look for somewhere behind that. Intrusion bar perhaps.

I picked up a set of 400mm Tow straps from GMP which should allow them to be visible and easily accessible.

I will have to crawl under the car on the weekend and suss it all out...

Naturally, if people manage to drive all the way there, i'd hope they can manage to drive in a straight line for a km.

Minimal. It's like 2mm under the bar line. Flex is not going to be an issue

Yeah Daz you know how it is. It's a regs thing. Will no doubt never be used. If it is a small amount of bar flex will be my last concern

Side numbers on. I've gone full regs stickers for circuit racing. So windscreen and name stickers too

I'm still looking for a front tow point but a strap held in through the sump protection plate should suffice. Apparently they test these points on dry land. Luke at GMP was helpful and we spent some time under the Monaro looking for the right spots.

Rear point will be bolt in to the chassis via the fuel tank bracket bolt.

Not sure how anal they will be for front access. In circuit racing classes like saloon car etc the tow point is always at the very front of the car. often a slot in the bar.

Underneath would be a bitch if you dug into a sand trap. Not an issue at temora of course so I doubt they would care

How did these tow points end up? I am looking at doing some more events where these are a requirement. Don't really want to cut up my bar though.

The year my ute raced at Temora we used a tow strap attached to one of these two bolts (can't remember which) on the front. Passed scrutineering and given there are no sand traps up there I wasn't worried about the possibility of ripping the front off.

At the rear we used the fixing point for the rear muffler from memory.
